Autorun CD-ROM Setup

Use the Autorun Producer utility to create an autorun CD-ROM that displays your slide show automatically when the CD-ROM is inserted in the recipient's CD drive. This utility creates the four files necessary for your slide show to start automatically when the CD-ROM is inserted into the end-user's CD-ROM drive.

Creating an autorun CD-ROM is a simple process.

  1. Start the Autorun Producer program to create the four files that will be copied to your CD burner..
  2. Complete all the fields required by the Autorun Producer. Click here to see an example screen-shot of the Autorun Producer program.
  3. Select the default transitions for your slide show. Simply click the transitions button and place a check mark by each transition you want to use during the slide show. Note, this cannot be changed once the CD-ROM is created.
  4. Click the Create button to create the following files: AUTORUN.INF, DSS.INI, DSSAR.ICO, DSSAR.EXE. A message will be displayed telling you where the files are located.
  5. Use your CD burning software to copy these four files to the root of your CD-ROM. Burn the CD as a data CD. Make sure you place them in the root folder of the CD-ROM. Root of the CD means do not put these file in a folder. All sub-folders and these four files should be stored on the root of the CD-ROM. For example, if the CD -ROM drive is F:, put these four files (AUTORUN.INF, DSS.INI, DSSAR.ICO, DSSAR.EXE) on F:\ as shown in the image to the right.
  6. Finally, use your CD burning software (data CD format) to copy your photo images and music files to the CD-ROM. These images can be placed in the root folder or in any number of sub-folders.
  7. If you want to add captions to your autorun CD additional steps are necessary. Captions and other photo properties (such as individual transitions and transition timing) are stored in files with the same name as the image but with .dss as the file extension. Thus, a photo named PHOTO29.JPG would have its caption stored in PHOTO29.DSS. Make sure to copy all of the .dss files with your images to your CD-ROM if you want the captions to be displayed on your CD-ROM. You must create captions before your CD is burned. Use the slide show program to create your captions using the photo properties button. When complete, copy all the .dss files to your CD with your images. Now when the recipient of your CD-ROM inserts it into their CD Drive, your slide show will start automatically

Command line parameters may be used to change slide show options. These are located in the AUTORUN.INF file. It is best to use the Autorun Producer to modify the command line parameters and to create AUTORUN.INF.
